“The Guatemala global health experience was a fantastic clinical opportunity to learn about the complexities of culture, language, access to medical care, and medical infrastructure as well as how each of these factors affect a patient’s quality of care and understanding of disease processes. It was enlightening to learn that these factors are global – there are many patients in the Cincinnati area that struggle with the same barriers to health care that we witnessed in Guatemala. I hope to move forward in my career with a more holistic approach to each patient’s care and to be more cognizant of bringing cultural competency to every patient encounter.”
