  • R1s are paired up with an orthopedist or sports medicine specialist for a “weekly” longitudinal experience throughout the year (once-a-week during your 2-week FMC block, all year). R1 mentors include both FM spots medicine physicians and orthopedic doctors.

  • R2 and R3s have designated 2 separate designed 2 week blocks of orthopedics/sports medicine working with podiatrists, PM&R doctors, and orthopedic/sports medicine physicians, including neurosurgeon and hand specialist (1 each year). In addition, residents during their sports medicine rotation will work with Dr. Boyle at the OMM clinic that is run our of our Family Medicine center.

  • Residents will also have 1:1 POCUS training for Orthopedics during their Orthopedic rotation (see POCUS for more information about our Point-fo-Care Ultrasound curriculum).

  • Residents who are interested in additional sports medicine training will have the opportunity to select additional experiences during their longitudinal elective time (see Yearly Breakdown for more information about longitudinal electives).

Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM)

Thanks to our energetic and ever expanding group of DO faculty and residents, OMM is integrated into the curriculum for both osteopathic and allopathic residents. We offer a yearly OMM series with a practical component, and DOs keep their skills sharp with additional weekly teaching. Our DO team offers OMM sessions in the Family Medicine Center for our patients as well as on the inpatient service!

OMM conferences are led by Dr. Sean Boyle, who can be found integrating OMM in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Here, he demonstrates counterstrain on Maya Prabhu (PGY-3).

DO Samia Nandyal (PGY-2) gauges the restrictive barrier on Sage Hunt (PGY-2).

Josh Cockroft (PGY-5) and Armika Tatum (PGY-3) practice counterstrain maneuvers on Habeeb Suara (PGY-3) at an OMM conference.
