We are a full spectrum family medicine residency program sponsored by The Christ Hospital, with academic affiliation and faculty coming from the University of Cincinnati. This gives our residents the ability to benefit from the resources and learning environment of a large academic medical center and a busy community hospital.  We have seven family medicine positions and two family medicine-psychiatry positions each year to make an intern class of nine!  For more information on the combined family medicine-psychiatry programclick here.

Our FOCUS

We have a longstanding commitment to care for underserved populations, both in Cincinnati, across America, and internationally. All of our residents have annual Global Health experiences that are fully covered by the program. Residents also work longitudinally throughout all 3 years in secondary continuity sites for homeless, uninsured, and underinsured populations. For more information on the combined Global and Underserved components of our programclick here to visit our "Global and Underserved Page".

We are an academic program based in a community hospital.

  • Our main hospital and clinic site is at Christ Hospital, one of the oldest community hospitals in Cincinnati and which is consistently ranked one of the nation’s top 50 hospitals by the U.S.News and World Report.

    • Despite its name, Christ Hospital is NOT religiously affiliated.

  • We get robust pediatric training (inpatient, outpatient, and emergency medicine) at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital,  a national leader and the #1 “Best Children’s Hospitals” according to U.S.News and World Report.

  • We also work at the University of Cincinnati, including for our Emergency Medicine training, working with the country’s first ever EM residency established in 1970, who has remained at the cutting edge of residency training. We also rotate at the University of Cincinnati Student Health Center, which is run by the UC Family Medicine Department.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Our program has a continued commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Starting in 2022, our residents created the Antiracism Task Force (ATRF) to progress our residency and institution in becoming anti-racist. Building on our program’s commitment to underserved care, the ARTF promotes the interests of both our residents and patients from historically excluded backgrounds. To learn more, check out the Antiracism Task Force page!

As an affiliate of the University of Cincinnati, we work very closely with their office of Diversity and Inclusion and have a working relationship with the Dean of Diversity through initiatives for rotating medical students, and much more. Our program also has a Resident Diversity Committee who helps to facilitate goals pertaining to diversity and inclusion. Residents are also encouraged to join the Christ Hospital Diversity and Inclusion Committee. This committee works to ensure that the health network is cognizant of the needs of its workforce and the surrounding community. Throughout the city of Cincinnati there is a unique opportunity to be part of the Minority Housestaff Association (MHA). This group is grant-funded and tasked with welcoming and supporting underrepresented minority residents from all specialties and programs across the greater tristate area by hosting monthly events, sponsoring conference attendance, and promoting networking and mentorship relationships with faculty. Several alumni including Sara Maples (‘21) and LaToya Smith (‘23) have served in leadership roles for the MHA.

Residents will find a welcoming medical community across specialties including the Cincinnati Medical Association, Cincinnati Hispanic Chamber, and the Cincinnati Chapter of NAACP to name a few.
