Emily Levinson - University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine
My commitment to underserved communities began long before my career in medicine. Originally from South Bend, Indiana, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Emory University, before returning to the Midwest after college to do Teach for America. As a teacher working in inner-city St. Louis, I confronted many of the inequities entrenched in the current American educational system. After three years of teaching, I decided to redirect my passion towards underserved medicine. While in medical school at the University of Missouri, I worked extensively in free health clinic, as well as rotated in urban federally qualified health centers, and did an HIV outreach elective in South Africa. I plan to continue actively working with underserved communities and confront the critical inequities that are deep-seated in this country.
I chose TCHUH for residency because of its strong commitment to underserved medicine both locally and globally. I am beyond excited for the opportunity to work closely with other residents who have similar passions/interests. I also chose TCHUH for the full spectrum family medicine training, as my interests within family medicine are vast, including (in addition to underserved medicine) teen pregnancy, prenatal addiction medicine, geriatrics and palliative care, adolescent medicine, and much more. I am excited for the opportunity to have intentional academic training in all aspects of family medicine at TCHUH.
Outside of medicine, I love spending time with my husband and dog, as well as family and good friends. I am a red wine enthusiast! I enjoy reading (favorite genre is historical fiction), playing board games, and yoga. I love to both cook and bake. I enjoy being outside whenever the sun is out.
