Flo Hsiao- Yale School of Medicine
I grew up in California but moved across the country to attend college at Princeton University where my interest in health inequity first developed through a global health research project on clean water access in rural Kenya. When I moved to New Haven, CT for medical school at Yale, I realized that I did not have to look very far to find evidence of health inequities. For four years, I volunteered with Agape, a church for the homeless, which aimed to meet the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of homeless individuals in New Haven. My experience at Agape had a significant influence on my approach to medicine and convinced me of the need for a more holistic, biopsychosocial view of patient care, which ultimately led me to pursue family medicine as a career.
I chose TCH/UC because of their demonstrated commitment to underserved medicine, full-spectrum training, and amazing faculty who are passionate about medical education. I am so excited to move to the midwest for the first time and call Cincinnati my home as well as work with and be mentored by fantastic residents and faculty who are dedicated to improving the health for the most vulnerable both locally and abroad. Outside of medicine, I love hanging out with my husband and friends, exploring new towns, spending too much time in used bookstores and vinyl shops, eating Asian food, learning about plants, and playing music (piano and clarinet).
