Class of 2023

Quincy Banks- Wake Forest University

I grew up in a semi-military family where packing up and moving were familiar. Although I claim LaVergne TN as home, I have lived in Arizona, Texas, Mississippi, and Georgia. I attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville for undergraduate studies and transitioned to Wake Forest for medical school. Growing up poor due to an early divorce taught me humility and how we need strong leaders to build strong communities. Family Medicine physicians exemplify the compassionate care that can bring any community together. I chose Family Medicine for this reason and because I value the continuity of care and its implications on healthcare. I am proud to be part of TCH/UC because I know that I have joined a community of strong leaders where we will use the knowledge and skills that we have gained to support others locally and abroad, something truly beautiful! I enjoy riding my bike, exploring new recipes, spending time with my family and friends, and am excited to explore Cincinnati's many parks.

Rynita Bohler- Wayne State University School of Medicine

I was born and raised in the Motor City where I attended Wayne State University for both undergrad and medical school. Growing up and attending medical school in Detroit gave me a passion for serving underserved communities and working to increase health equity amidst those marginalized in society. I am drawn to Family Medicine because of the opportunities to help break the intergenerational cycle of poor health in families through education and advocacy. The passion and commitment to excellent clinical care and service exhibited by the residents, faculty and staff at TCH/UC is extraordinary, and I am so honored to join the family. I am eager to get involved in the community and explore everything Cincinnati has to offer! Outside of medicine, I love to spend time with my husband and family, watch movies, draw, bake, listen to music, and explore new restaurants.

Something you are interested in that people may not know: Crime Shows and Foreign Dramas/Films. What are you most excited about in starting your Family Medicine Residency: I am excited to be trained as competent and compassionate physician leader. I look forward to working with and supporting like-minded peers that are dedicated to service, clinical excellence and advocacy in the community. Favorite thing about Cincinnati: As a native Detroiter, I am eager to explore the city! But so far the people I have meet in Cincinnati have been the highlight! Favorite Team: Detroit Pistons- The Original Bad Boys

Alyssa Brogden- Ohio University School of Medicine

I  am beyond thrilled to settle in my hometown of Cincinnati to train at TCH/UC Family Medicine Program!! #FMRevolution! I went to Ohio University for both undergrad and medical school. In undergrad I studied Athletic Training and played Women’s Rugby. In medical school, some of my most memorable moments were spent serving at the local and national level with the incredible humans of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) – a non-profit aimed to diversify the face of medicine, support URM students and fight for health equity. I also enjoyed participating in a co-curriculum called Rural and Urban Scholars Pathways that enriched my understanding of social determinants of health and equipped me with tools to care for underserved communities. These experiences enhanced my interests in public health, structural and cultural competency, and academic medicine. Clinically, I am also interested in LGBTQ, adolescent, and women’s health.

I am most excited to be able to integrate my passion for social justice with osteopathic and preventive medicine to facilitate healing and unity in the Cincinnati community. I am proud to be part of a family medicine residency like TCH/UC, whose leadership operates on an anti-racist agenda and seeks to train residents to provide high quality and equitable care to vulnerable populations, both locally and globally.

My favorite thing about Cincinnati is the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center! Smack dab in the middle of The Banks, it symbolizes the struggle, triumph, and continued resilience of centuries of people fighting for freedom and human rights.

In my free time, I enjoy thowin’ down in the kitchen, mindful movement, painting, non-fiction, and spending quality time with my husband. My favorite sports team is Dayton Flyers Basketball.

Emily Furnish- University of Louisville School of Medicine

I am a proud native of Louisville, KY, a city known for horse racing (Derby, Y’all!), bourbon, and great food (besides KFC). I have a background in vocal music and piano, so I attended the University of Kentucky with hopes of becoming an opera singer. Although I still sing in choir, I added a Chemistry major after deciding that I enjoyed performing more as a hobby. I had not really considered a career in medicine until one of my pre-med friends asked me to accompany her to Peru on a medical mission trip before our senior year. After learning about Peru’s medical system and seeing how members of the healthcare team collaborated to provide care in underserved areas, I decided to further explore medical careers once I returned to the United States. I later attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine, which provided me with several opportunities to volunteer in the community, collaborate with peers on Global Health projects, and foster lifelong friendships.

When I rotated in Family Medicine during my third year, I felt that it was the perfect fit for my personality and interests in outpatient medicine, Behavioral Health, and advocacy. I attended the National AAFP Conference during my M4 year, and the residents I met from TCH/UC were my favorite people! I was drawn to their enthusiasm for Family Medicine and passion for underserved care locally and abroad. The strong sense of community among residents and emphasis on full-spectrum training made my decision an easy one. I am thrilled to start my new life in Cincinnati and explore the performing arts opportunities, outdoor activities, and food scene (I am already a huge Skyline fan) with my co-residents!

Meena Mamidi- University of Louisville School of Medicine

My family and I immigrated to the US from India when I was very young, and I grew up in Northern KY. I went to University of Cincinnati for undergrad, followed by University of Louisville for medical school.

While in medical school at Louisville, I was exposed to a diverse patient population that included rural and urban underserved, LBGTQ+ patients, and refugees. I also worked at the Georgia Chaffee Teenage Parent Program, a school for teen mothers that also housed a full-scope clinic. These experiences shaped my interest in serving vulnerable populations and dismantling the systemic barriers that impact patients, leading me down the path to eventually choosing family medicine.

I am thrilled to have matched at TCH/UC for my Family Medicine residency! I love that the program emphasizes community partnerships and our role as physicians both inside and outside of the clinic. The residents and faculty alike are passionate about using their full-spectrum training to drive sustainable change, while being incredibly approachable and down to earth. I am excited to make public health, advocacy, and sustainable initiatives for underserved populations part of my training and future career.

Jhenya Nahreini- Georgetown University Medical School

I was born in Indianapolis (at a hospital close to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!) and spent my early childhood on Long Island before moving out west to Colorado. Technically I am not a Colorado native, but “I got here as fast as I could” (to quote a bumper sticker). In college I studied Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado, initially intending to pursue my PhD; however, after volunteering at a local assisted living center, I realized how much I valued one-on-one interaction with individuals. After graduating, I worked as a CNA for a year and then spent a month shadowing doctors at different health care facilities in Chincha, Peru. When I came back from my trip, I worked for one year in a basic science lab studying the development of the human retina before I started medical school at Georgetown University. Leaving the beautiful Rocky Mountains behind was difficult, but the nation’s capital made up for it with free museums and great brunch places. During the preclinical years, I started kindling a passion for primary care which then exploded once I hit the wards and witnessed how important the social determinants of health play out in the overall well-being of a patient and health outcomes. Within the scope of family medicine, I am particularly interested in addiction medicine and geriatrics. Outside of work, I enjoy running, reading poetry, writing letters to friends and family, and exploring local quaint coffee shops to grab a cup of Joe while reading a book or catching up with a friend.

Laura Ledvora - Medical College of Wisconsin
Hello! My name is Laura, I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and completed medical school in Milwaukee. I fit the profile of a “Midwesterner” pretty well- friendly, hard-working, genuine, outdoorsy, cheese-lover, and someone who reflexively says “sorry” for no reason! I am so grateful to be a part of our Cincinnati residency family because our residents and faculty support each other in our passion for excellent medicine, service to our community, and personal wellness. I chose combined training because the physical and psychosocial aspects of health are often inseparable. I am particularly interested in urban primary care and trauma informed care, and the physician’s role in mitigating the effects of stress/trauma on health outcomes. Here in Cincinnati I have found so much joy in working with my colleagues to build Road to Medicine, an after school science program for local students. I am also co-chair of the Wellness Committee. In my free time I love to be active and am happiest when I am dancing my heart out in a Zumba class, running in Eden park, hiking/rock climbing, or doing gymnastics.

Evan Onusko- University of Cincinnati School of Medicine

I grew up in Greenfield, OH and moved to Cincinnati to major in Biology and Spanish at UC. I love the city and its people, and the missions of its community organizations have shaped my goals as a physician. I am most interested in underserved medicine and mental health care. I chose family medicine to provide the most holistic care to my patients and to build relationships in my community through continuity of care. I am very grateful to be staying in Cincinnati while working with a residency program that values what I love most about Cincinnati.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy swimming, rock climbing, and spicy food. I am a big soccer fan, and I love going to FC Cincinnati games (although I miss watching them at Nippert Stadium).
